Have Acute Athralgias. Taking Topamax And Keppra. Recent Report Shows Viral Menegitis And Kidney Sepsis. Due To Medications?

Hi there, I have a couple of questions, 1. I've had acute athralgias for around 7 days and my blood results really didnt show anything significant. WCC and Neutrophils were in the normal range for the first time in 2 years at 10.2 and 6.46. CRP was slightly elivated at 6. GGT - 92, ALP - 87, ALT - 53. And Urea 3.6I've recently ceased taking Topamax 850mg per day (staggered decrease over 6 1/2 months) and am now monotherepy on Keppra 2750mg per day. For pain relief, Paracetmol has not been affective and am now taking Di-Gesic to manage. Ibufrofen was helpful for about 2 days - however using it for longer does cause kidney pain - so this was discontinued. (Recent history - include Viral Menegitis in 2012, Kidney Sepsis in 2012 causing moderate kidney damage and 7 UTIs in 12 months. Sexual Health testing was negative for infections. Hospitalised 3 times this year with 2 x kidney infection and once for virus of unknown origin, intially thought to be another bout of menegitis - not identified through CSF. ) I am still awaiting results for Lymes and RRV, however, i havent been in any locations where these would be applicable, unless they have an incubation period of over 5 months. I'm interested to know if this could be a result of withdrawal of topamax and now Keppra only or if this could be just a random viral infection that has come and gone. and 2In an attempt to try and rescue my body from so many medications, I had my Mirena IUD removed on 30 April and today i've noticed a metallic taste over my lips. I did not have these symptoms in the 34 months I had the device. Is this normal? Thanks Ree

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The medicines you are taking are immunomodulatory drugs. These do predispose you to the opportunistic infections. Broad spectrum antibiotics are needed to control these infections.
