Have Belching, Difficulty Breathing. Taking An Antibiotic Called Zithromycin And Guaifenesin. What Can I Do?
I'm taking an antibiotic called zithromycin and I'm also taking guaifenesin and sudafed because of an illness. I took all meds yesterday and did dine but tonight I'm belching al lot and have heartburn and find it hard to breath because of this. I'm already having difficulty breathing because of the stopped up head and now this. What can I do to help get rid of this that's safe to take with my meds?
Hello,
You are having side effects of AZITHROMYCIN.
Gastrointestinal side effects are the predominant side effects of using AZITHROMYCIN.
Gastrointestinal side effects include nausea, abdominal discomfort, vomiting, and diarrhea and it occurs in upto 10% of patients.
However, patients rarely (less than 1%) discontinued therapy due to these side effects.
You can take some proton pump inhibitor like PANTOPROZOLE 40 mg once a day in the morning on empty stomach.Take your AZITHROMYCIN around 2 hours after taking PANTOPROZOLE.
I hope your gastrointestinal symptoms should settle with it.
But if you dont improve with it,you can ask your doctor to change the antibiotic.
Thanks
