Have Blue Tiny Blisters On My Right Thumb. Swollen And Painful. Used Betnovate Cream. What Are These Blisters?

hi a few years ago i got these random out the blue tiny blisters on my right thumb right on that bit of bone to bend i got them a few times around that time and everytime i made a doctors appointment they would pop and go so i couldnt really show my doctor. four years on from when i got them its happened again i got these blisters two days ago it starts off with one blister and then theres a few it makes my thumb swollen and it hurts to bend or stretch my thumb fully strait as it stretches and squeezes the little blisters i have taken a picture if you require one and these blisters do not spread anywhere else, they only seem to appear in the same spot on the same thumb. i dont think im allergic to anything so it cant be an reaction to something. at the moment i have popped the blisters because they were too painful, i wiped my thumb with anti septic and put on some betnovate cream and wrapped my whole thumb with bandage to prevent any infection which i do feel the pain has eased. do you have any possibilities to what you think these blisters could be?

Hi
Thanks for your query

From the description that you gives, it looks like you are developing recurrent episodes of herpetic infection.
Herpes can present in any localized areas of the body presenting with recurrent development of Fluid filled blisters which are grouped and remain confined to the same area every time they appear.
Such lesions tend to recur and there can occasionally be upto 6 or more recurrences in a year.
Now the most important thing is to understand that it is a viral infection and is contagious. So you need to treat this infection whenever it appears. In between the infection, the virus goes and resides in a latent state in a ganglion and any kind of precipitating factors in the form of fever, stress, trauma, and surgery, excess sun exposure can lead to recurrences.
Now regarding treatment, you need a course of oral antivirals like acyclovir every time you get a recurrence. This is helpful in two ways. One, it decreases the severity of the attack and secondly, it decreases the chances of recurrence.
Along with it, you need to clean the area twice a day and apply a topical antibiotic cream like mupirocin over the affected area to prevent any superinfection. You should totally avoid using any kind of topical steroids over the affected area. Please do not apply betnovate, as it will increase the lesions and they will take longer time to heal.

Hope it helps
