Have Burst Fracture, No Nerve Damage. Released In A Rigid Brace To A Local Neurosurgeon. MRI Taken. Suggestions?
I was in an auto accident on 7/22/13 I have a t12 burst fracture, with no obvious nerve damage, no pain. I spent 4 day in the hospital where the accident happened, and was released in a rigid brace to a local neurosurgeon. His opinion was to fuse 5 vertabra which I am not sure is needed. What type of doctor should I see who will monitor my condition, in the meanwhile? I have had 2 ctscans,( First within 6 hrs of the accident, second 3 wks 4 days later) 1 MRI (day after the accident) regular X-rays 3 weeks 3 days..of all X-rays I have only been shown 1, the one taken on the date of the accident. I am almost 4 weeks post accident and still without final treatment. What type of doctor should I see for my case? I am 48 yr female in very good health. I have good healthcare insurance.
hello, As you have mentioned already thate there is t12 fracture. better consult with Orthopedic surgeon. and Best would be consult with Spinal Surgeon.
Thanks for consuting HCM As you told about MRI done but you did not tell whether decision is taken after MRI by orthopedic surgeon. Burst fracture at T12 level. Decision of fixation depends upon percentage of collapse. if it is more than 50% of total height in lateral view then fixation is mandatory. So please think on these lines. You are on complete bed rest or not. this is not told. But you should take complete bed rest for 6 weeks at least. Better go to spine surgeon or orthopedic surgeon for complete consultation.
