Have Cellulitis. Prescribed Cefazolin And Ancef. Safe?
Hi there,
In my case study, the doctor ordered Ancef 750 mg IV q 12h and the medications available is Cefazolin 1 gram per vial ; once reconstituted, contains 100 mg/ml for a 66 years old who has cellulitis on her left leg.
The question is Indicate the safe dosages for the medication ordered. Are the route and dosages for the client safe?
Besides dose adjustment in renal impairment (high doses may cause CNS toxicity). Well for adults a dose between 500mg -1gm every 8-12 hrs is good enough and patient can tolerate if there is no renal insufficiency. So the Cefazolin 1gram could be administered as 750mg by simply taking 3/4 of the 1gram vial. Nurses will get that done better.
Hope this helps and wish you the best
