Hi there ~

Having a soccerball tummy is not a bad thing at all. There is evidence to show that you are as healthy as your labs go. However if you have had children there are perineal exercises that could tone up your muscles and reduce your weight, also the central weight bearing regions that are exposed much would also need to be exercised. Also a lot of aerobics and cardio is recommended for core strengthening and endurance. I would also mention moderation in diet here. You may need to consult a nutritionist. There is no need to become depressed over it. If you feel like it is letting your mood down, please visit with a psychiatrist who is sure to help.

Take care and have a great day !

Hi Teressa,
Thanks for writing your query.

I would suggest that you should follow some precauutions like :-
1. Avoid spicy/oily foods.
2. Donot miss a meal.
3. Avoid talking while eating and eat slow as this results in swallowing more air while eating, resulting in bloating sensation.
4. Avoid ciggarette/alcohol if any.
5. Donot self medicate especially pain killers and steroids.

Also get yourself investigated for H.pylori.

You can take antacid like Omeprazole 20 mg along with Domperidone 10 mg.
Digestive preparation containing pepsin and fungal diastase are also helpful in relief of your symptoms.
Your prooblem is treatable and you should not feel depressed.
I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Most common cause of bloating is intake of oily food, water intake immediately after meals, stress, consumption of stale food, eating more than required, fluctuating hormones, gastritis, IBS, etc.

1. Avoid oily food
2. Drink water 30-40 minutes after meals ( avoid intake immediately after meals)
3. Take home made fresh food
4. Do not over eat
5. get fitness tests done to rule out gastric and hormonal problems
6. Avoid sedentary lifestyle, do regular exercises
7. Antacids and laxatives can be of help
8. Take high fiber diet
9. Avoid constipation
10. Avoid stress, do deep breathing exercises for relaxation

Distension is different from bloating, get examined clinically to rule out distention, distension occurs due to tumor, swelling, inflammation or presence of fluid in the internal organs. You may need to go through CT, MRI, USG to detect the cause. Your treatment will depend on the diagnosis made. Take care.

Psychiatrist Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

There could be a few possibilities for a constant bloated sensation in your tummy.

- Acid peptic disease
- Gall bladder problems
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Anxiety

You have mentioned that you have had multiple tests from many specialists and everything has been normal. In such cases, the possibility an anxiety-related problem should be considered. Since, you say that you are also feeling depressed because of this, I think it would be worthwhile to have a consultation with a psychiatrist for further evaluation and advise. I would also suggest that you try relaxation techniques like deep breathing, yoga, meditation, etc. Dietary modifications - avoiding oily, spicy foods and taking more of green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits - can help.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
