Have Developed A Dvt In Lower Limb. On Warfarin. Have Swelling In The Thigh. Angio, Test For Cancer Is Normal. How To Overcome This?
hi i am 35 yr old non smoker, slim built and very active indian male. i have devloped dvt in left lower limb from external illiac to tibia region on 29 sep 2013 after abreif spell of pnemounia. i was hospitalised for a duration of about a month and am now on warfarin 5 and 2.5 mg alternatively along with folic acid od. my inr is presently stabilised at 2.5. the swelling in my thigh and calf region is not reducing despite proper medication, using cl 2 compression stocking and keeping leg elevated. Is there any other medicine that needs to added to speed recovery? I have been told that cl 2 compression stocking below knee is only required despite having a swelling in the thigh as blood is mainly pumped by the calf when carring out routine walking. CT angio and all other test for cancer are ok and nothing adverse has been detected.
It takes around 3 to 6 months for the swelling to reduce after deep venous thrombosis. There is slow recanalization of the thrombosed vein over a period of time leading on.to slow regression of the swelling. No other medication is indicated nor will be helpful in resolution of swelling I hope it helped Get back to me in case you have any other query
Take care Wishing you a speedy recovery Regards Dr T Shobha MBBS MD
