Have Diverticulitis But Why Do I Tend To Vomit During Abdominal Pain?

Sometimes when I have a bowel movement, I get abdominal pain and then I get excess saliva and vomit. I have always had a problem with constipation. I had a colonoscopy and the Dr. said I did have diverticulitis. Why do I tend to vomit sometimes. I do not feel sick.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Vomiting is usually mediated via vomiting centers in the brain stem through neurochemical release phenomenon.

Antiemetic with 5HT3 receptor blocking action as ondansetron helps greatly in such cases.

Addition of gut soothing agents as Libotryp or others are also best-helping agents, to get a prescription from your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
