Have Epigastric Pain. Normal Abdominal Ultrasound Report. Elevated Lipase Levels. What Does It Mean?

Hi. I went to the GI doctor for epigastric pain (which I have had in the past but was really present all of the sudden) a couple of months ago. It was center maybe center left below ribs. It even hurt when I pressed on my sturnum. Blood test revealed a slightly elevated lipase (around 90.) An abdominal MRI with contrast was clear except revealing an abdominal diastasis and possible hernia. An abdominal ultrasound reported nothing in gallbalddar. No findings on upper endoscopy. I even had a thoracic MRI without findings. I feel better with the pain but the lipase has crept up to 114. Any thoughts on this elevated lipase? Other tests that have been suggested to me are HIDA scan of gallbladdar and colonoscopy but I am not to eager to have additional testing right now unless it really warranted. Thank you so much!

Hello
Welcome to healthcaremagic

Lipase enzyme is mainly related with pancreatic function. Its level can increase in many medical condition like pancreatitis , biliary disease, trauma , medicines etc.
However the lipase level you have quoted is pretty much in normal range.Every lab uses slightly different cut-off and a little bit higher or lower value does not make much of difference.
Since you have undergone extensive meical testing and nothing seems unusual ,it is better to stop worrying about serious condition and have periodic health checkup with your GP.
