Have Hairline Fracture In Middle Finger. Wearing A Splint. How Speed Up Healing?
I have a hairline fracture on my left middle finger . I jammed it playing basketball (I am an athlete, I play softball, basketball and volleyball as well). It s been 2 weeks and half since the injury and it doesn t feel like it s getting any better. I am currently wearing a splint . I was just wondering, is there any way possible to speed up the injury? I need to play softball ASAP. Also, how do I know when it s fully healed?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Ramakant's Response
Dear customer,
The treatment of broken fingers depends on the type of fracture and particular bone in the finger that is injured. If the fracture is stable, treatment may be as simple as splinting. If the fracture is unstable, the injured finger will need to be immobilized using splint of surgical immobilisation.
It is very important not to disturb the splint. You may have the check x-ray done to see if it is in place and has not moved. If it is not alligned then it may effect healing adversely.
Sometimes it may take 4-6 weeks for the complete healing to occur.
thank you
