Have Heart Failure And Ejection Fraction. Done Colostomy. Survival Chances?
My father has heart failure and has an ejection fraction of 25%. He previously had to have a colostomy when his ef was at 40 due to colon cancer which was removed. He is now experiencing complications with the colostomy and will more than likely need surgery. He also is a diabetic. If he has surgery, what are the survival chances with the ef of 25%.
With a history of heart failure and diabetes, his chances of serious heart events in the perioperative setting are at least 5% by the Revised Cardiac Risk Index; the most important thing to do is have him meet with a provider who gives him a preoperative clearance and ensures that his heart failure is compensated prior to proceeding with the surgery.
