Have Hot Flashes, Night Sweats. High Level Of Epstein Barr Virus. What To Look For?

I've been having hot flashes and night sweats off and on for over 2 years and they have been becoming increasingly worse in the last couple of months my doctor has run a number of test and every thing is normal except I have a high level of Epstein barr virus,. She want s to run a ct of my pelvis and abdomen. What is she looking for?

From your symptoms, something is wrong and the truth is the answer to that has not been found. The preliminary findings are however guiding. That is why your doctor wishes to do some more tests.

hot flashes/night sweats and high levels of EBV with symptoms going on for more than 2years and recent worsening make it concerning for a chronic process. EBV has been associated with some tumour types like the lymphomas. Scans help in gathering more information in this light by looking for bigger than normal lymph nodes in the abdomen.

I feel this is what you doctor wishes to further explore. Not necessarily to say there is a tumour but also to feel comfortable that he/she is not missing out on something potentially dangerous.
