Have Increasing Vaginal Discomfort And Itchiness. Have Peeling Of Vaginal Wall. Rd & Inflamed. Yeast Infection?

Hi,

Over the last few days I have been spotting along with experiencing increasing vaginal discomfort and itchiness. It wasn't until last night that I noticed in the bath a lot of skin that had peeled away from the vaginal wall. From looking at it, it is very red and inflamed. The peeling skin is pink/white.

What kind of infection could this be? Yeast? bacterial?

I am solely breastfeeding our 3 child (she is 10 months old).

Hi there,
Welcome to HCM.
Your symptoms definitely suggest of vaginal infection. Vaginal infection is called as vaginitis and can be caused by bacteria, fungi and parasites. I also notice that you have been breast feeding your child since 10 months. Are you having regular periods? If so, since when. Spotting could be the menses occurring.
Vaginal skin does not peel off so easily as you mention. It could be skin covering your vulva.
Vaginitis is associated with inflamed walls and lots of discharge, which is usually foul smelling. Fungal infection that is yeast infection is associated with typical curd like discharge and small ulcers in the vaginal wall which can bleed.
Vaginal infection can also be caused by a parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. In this infection, the vagina is very red (strawberry color) with very foul smelling discharge.
Your symptoms suggest yeast infection as during lactation period, the hormonal levels in the body make you susceptible for fungal infection. This can be confirmed by a simple test where a vaginal swab is taken and subjected to examination for diagnosis of infection.
I suggest you to get in touch with your GP for this test and he will appropriately give treatment depending on test results.
Thanks
