Have Irregular Periods And PCOS. Have Spotting. Normal Ultrasound. Do I Have A Mild Form Of Disease?

hi, i am 22 years old female, i have irregular menestruation, my gynaecologist told me that i have PCOS as my hormonal assay revealed that the LH and FSH ratio is reversed, recently i developed spotting that lasts few months ago, i have no any other symptoms of PCOS no acne , no hirustism,my weight is average, my ultra sound was normal, how this could be PCOS ?? and if it is, is that a mild form of it?? and please i want to know a management for that irregular periods and spotting and also to what extent it will affect my fertility? thanx in advance

Hi,
PCOS or polycystic ovarian disease is the commonest cause of hormonal imbalance during the reproductive age group. Diagnosis is most often made by symptoms like irregular periods, obesity and infertility. Ovulation is either absent or irregular and sonogram shows multiple immature follicles in the ovaries, so typical of this condition and hence the name. Since you do not have many of the symptoms, your condition seems to be mild and is likely to respond very well to treatment. Without the majority of the features in the disease, especially normal ovaries, you have good chances of conception once the irregular cycles are corrected. Management includes hormonal supplementation to correct the cycles, drugs to treat insulin resistance that is a part of the symptom complex, weight reduction, exercise, nutritional supplementation and induction of ovulation to treat infertility. Please get further advice from your doctor. Good luck.
