Have Knot On Back Of Hand, Appears While Bending Finger, Pain After Pressing. Is This The Cause For Concern?

My 21 y.o. daughter just noticed a "knot" on the back on her hand-- kind of in line with her ring finger and a couple of inches from her wrist -- it doesn't hurt unless she presses on it -- it seems to disappear if she raises her hand, but if she bends her fingers, it pops out -- it's a little disturbing that it just appeared for no apparent cause. Any danger/do we need to go to E.R.?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Your description suggests that it is a bursa developing from the tendon sheath.
There may be mild pain or restriction of movement, but as long as it does not interfere with your work, you may leave it.
If it grows in size ,pain increases and it interferes with day to day work , better get it excised consulting a surgeon or orthopedic surgeon.
Hope this answer will serve your purpose.
I shall be happy to answer any more queries if required.
Take care.
