Have Lower Right Pain. Ultrasound Shows Fibroids In Uterus. Is The Pain Related To Fibroids Or Bowel?

I have lower right pain -- best described near my right ovary -- just had an ultrasound last week of my uterus and ovaries and they found 2 small fibroids on my uterus.. wondering about the pain -- doctor said that it could be my bowel -- but the more I read I am concerned that it could be more than that -- what should be my next step since I just had the ultrasound and everything looked good other than the 2 small fibroids -- all hormone levels were normal too

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterus that are associated with heavy, painful periods. Certainly they could be associated with pain anywhere in the pelvis, but typically the problems are surrounding your cycle when they are small like you describe. Checking your hormone levels was largely useless in the workup of pelvic pain. Your doctor is right, the pain might be related to your bowel. You should see a GI doctor (who might consider your appendix) and once they have ruled out GI causes, then you could consider a laparoscopy if the pain continues. Make sure you rule out pregnancy!

I hope that this helps and good luck!
