Have Lymph Node On Neck, No Pain. Hard, Movable. Sore Throat, Stuffiness. Taking Imuran, Azathioprine

Hello, I have a lymph node on the side of my neck that has been there for around three weeks. It does not hurt, is very hard, and is movable. It seems another one has appeared above it and moves with it. Around a week and a half ago I did develop a sore throat and stuffiness, but that was after I discovered the swollen node. I am on imuran and azathioprine so I get worried about these things since my chances of cancer may be elevated.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

At the offset let me assure you that in the history of a throat infection, the appearance of lymph node is most probably a benign problem and you will have nothing to worry about.

Nevertheless since you are already on imuran and azathioprine there is always a chance of nodal enlargement due to other causes.

To be on the safer side and to confirm this, you can take a test called FNAC of the node as well as CT of the neck and get back to me with the reports.

Meanwhile if you have not taken a course of antibiotic for your throat infection, you may start a course of antibiotic like the amoxycillin-clavulanate 625 for five days and see if this helps in reducing the nodes.

do not worry and get the tests done if the nodes do not reduce

take care and get well soon

Dr Sriram Nathan

ps: You need to mention why you were taking imuran and azathioprine so that we can help you out better
