Have Numbness And Pain In Hand. No Medication Till Now. What To Do?

I am a hair dresser and lately I have been woken up at night with severe pain and numbness in my right hand. Feels like it's being crushed due to the pain. Iam not diabetic. People are telling me its carpal from repetitive movement in the right hand. It is happening more frequently only at night. Please help! I can't take the pain.

Hello,
thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Since you mentioned that you are a hair dresser , hence right hand is most active during your work.
On the right side there is a tunnel known as CARPAL TUNNEL & in this tunnel there is a nerve known as median nerve .
Beside median nerve a tendon ( flexor) is also passes through this tunnel , so due to over exertion this tunnel may compress than a patient feel pain, numbness ( particularly in the night as you mentioned in your query).
This pain may be any where even in whole arm ( cervical spondylosis may be another cause).

Note down one thing , if pain is relieved by hanging the hand over the edge of bed it means 100% this is carpal tunnel compression of median nerve .

There are also,
Parasthesae,
Numbness,
Inco-ordination
weakness in the muslces of hand.
One more reason may be rheumatoid arthritis ( few cases gout) ,so also rule out these.
May be due to blunt injury during scuffle.
Physical examination by orthopaedician will reveal the cause.
Good luck Dr. HET
