Have Pain In Groin And Hip. Unable To Lift Leg. Cause And Cure?
I am a male and am physically active. I have a sharp pain deep in my groin on the inner section of my hip. I am not able to lift my leg past a 45 degree angle. When lying down for two long I also feel discomfort in the area. What is it that I am experiencing and could it be caused by over use during exercise/ lifting weights?
A sharp and deep pain in the inner aspect of groin is suggestive of ADDUCTOR STRAIN.
The general treatment guidelines are as follows
* Apply R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) immediately. * Use crutches if needed. * Gently stretch the groin muscles provided this is comfortable to do so. * See a sports injury professional who can advise on rehabilitation of the injury.
If you don't find any improvement in symptoms , you should consult a orthopedic sports medicine specialist.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us
The fact that your pain is occurring with movements indicates a muscle strain. Any strained muscle when stretched gives severe pain. It could be caused by over use during exercise/ lifting weights.
Give adequate rest to the involved muscle group and avoid any movement that causes pain, moist heat application to relax the muscles,Local application of muscle relaxant gel,Analgesic medications as needed.
If you don't find any relief with the above measures, a detailed clinical examination along with appropriate investigations are needed to establish a diagnosis.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
