Hello! Thank you for the query. Your actual symptoms does not have to be caused by diverticulitis. Lower right abdominal pain can be caused by appendicitis, urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, ovarian cyst, inguinal hernia, large intestine disease other than diverticulitis (partial bowels obstruction due to inflammatory bowels disease or colon cancer). Appendicitis gives pain in the right lower abdomen however usually it starts with middle center abdominal pain. It hurts while walking, body temperature is slightly elevated, heart rate is accelerated. Nausea and vomiting usually appears. Urinary tract stones/infection gives lower abdominal pain which can radiate from upper back to the groin. Frequent urinating and burning while urinating appears. Fever can be present. Ovarian cyst can give only slight pain in the lower abdominal area however if ruptured, symptoms are similar to appendicitis. Inguinal hernia gives pain more in the groin which aggravates while coughing or lifting heavy objects. Bowels obstruction gives abdominal swelling, the pain can be located anywhere in the abdomen. Lack of gas and stool or diarrhea and constipation do appear alternately. Blood in stool can be present. Nausea and vomiting is very characteristic. I want you to perform simple test. Pleas push gently the area where the pain is located and rapidly release the hand. If pain aggravates while releasing the hand, your condition is urgent and you should go to ER. If appendicitis or bowels obstruction symptoms do fit to yours, this is also urgent situation and ER should be visited. Abdominal ultrasound, blood work, CRP, urine analysis should be performed. If you are really afraid of colonoscopy there is more friendly test called CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy). You may find this test more acceptable for you. I suggest you to visit gastroenterologist and ask about this test. Hope this will help. Regards.
