Have Pressure In The Lower Abdomen. Urinating Frequently. Have Bloating, Sleeping Disorders. Problem?

For the past 2.5 weeks I have experienced pressure in the lower abdomen resulting in my having to urinate frequently. I have had bloating and I cannot sleep more than 3/4 hours at a time due to how uncomfortable the pressure was. The last two days these symptoms have got a lot better. What on earth could be the matter? I don't want these symptoms to return. I don't have constipation or "the runs". I've switched to just drinking water instead of tea and coffee. Urine testing turned out to be negative for UTI.

Hi there.

Thanks for writing in.

From your brief description of symptoms, these are some of the differential diagnosis I can think of:

1. UTI
2. Constipation
3. Indigestion/pockets of gas collecting in the abdomen

Anyway , glad to know that your symptoms have got better.

Continue to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. Maintain a healthy diet with whole grain cereals, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Regular exercise for 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week.

Regular periodic emptying of the bladder.

If sexually active, emptying of the bladder before and after intercourse.

Maintain good perineal hygiene.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
