Have Red Color In Left Cheek, Movable Mass Under Skin, Warmer Left Side. Any Ideas?

We just noticed that my 6 month old granddaughter's left cheek was red and has a small mass that you can move about under the skin.It does not seem to be painful to her but the left side is much warmer than the rigth and tighter than the right side due to the swelling. She is not running a temperture though she is very cranky. Thoughts anyone?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

Your granddaughters left cheek is red with increased temperature as compared to the right cheek. These are signs of local infection. She is also irritable. She may be having local cellulitis or evolving abscess/abscess. This requires antibiotic treatment and may also require incision and drainage.

I will advice you to take her to a paediatrician urgently as in a young child local infection can spread via the blood stream to the whole blood (systemic infection).

Hope that helps.
Wishing you good luck.

Regards,

Dr.Preeti
