Have Sore Throat, Pus Oozing From The Tonsil Along With Swelling

Hello, My PCP was not concerned over this but I d like an ENTs opinion. It started with a sore throat that was diagnosed as tonsillitis but only on one side. The pain was awful. I have been on Amoxicillin and one shot of Roceph. I started to actually feel worse. Then a gray spot on the tonsil oozed quite a bit for a few days though the swelling of the throat was getting better. Today Pus is less and the Dr saw me and concluded that I had Mono or something viral ( I don t know what else though) was the source of my problem and to continue with the Amoxicillin since I also have sinusitis now according to an xray ( no discharge). I have not been able to eat or sleep for a week now and it is exhausting. I feel really run down by all this. IS this common for mono or should I push for more answers. I hate to bug the Dr but This seems weird. No fever, but alot of chills. And when I say no appetite I mean NONE! I hate it. Trying to eat makes me gag. Also is it normal to have sinusitis form along side any of these conditions? That concerns me given the pus coming from one tonsil. The tonsil only swells up and hurts at night. During the day it drains and feels fine. My Dr called it a tonsollith when she saw it today.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding problem of tonsillitis and associated sinusitis.

As you have given your symptoms and observations and the opinion of your doctor it appears as you are having upper respiratory tract infection with sinusitis with chronic tonsillitis with tonsilolith.

here I would like to tell you that simple tonsillitis is a disease of tonsils and usually involves both tonsils, uni lateral tonsillar swelling is found in these conditions-

1- Tonsilar cyst.

2- Tonsilolith (stone in tonsil).

3- Peritonsilar abscess.

Therefore I suggest you to consult any senior ENT doctor because above possibilities may be rule out by a thorough clinical examination and necessary investigations. In this way your disease will be diagnose and than only it may be plan for treatment.

Regards.
