Have Swollen Glands In Neck With Swallowing Difficulty. Both Sides Tender To Palpation
I have swollen glands in my neck bilaterally anterior to my sternocleidomastoid, and on the left extending up as far as the angle of my mandible. Both sides are tender to palpation with left > right. I have no limited mobility or neck range of motion changes. This has been persistent and increasing in intensity of 3 days with increasing discomfort with swallowing. I have no fever or other symptoms. Hearing is unaffected and I do not suspect an inner/outer ear infection. My tonsils are not swollen, nor is there redness or drainage in my throat. If the swelling was not bilateral I would consider a peritonsilar abscess. My suspicion is a viral process given the slow progression of symptoms and lack of fever. There are no rashes. I am curious to hear your thoughts. I am a specialist in paediatric dentistry and an ex-paediatric emergency nurse, hence the detail.
