Have Toxic Multinodular Goiter, Hyperthyroidism, Lymphocytes, Suggestive Of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Are FNA Results Accurate?
I have toxic multinodular goiter causing hyperthyroidism. However, FNA showed hurthle cells, follicular cells, colloid ,lymphocytes ...suggestive of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Rai discussed , but I feel at 34 surgery is best . On tapazole, but my levels fluctuate frequently. Are FNA results pretty accurate? Largest nodule in left and right 1.6 cm hyper vascular and hypoechoic .with many sub centimeter nodules as well.
I have understood your concerns about thyroiditis.
Let me assure you that in the case of thyroid, unless the FNAC report says or mentions about FOLLICULAR Tumor, any other diagnosis is pretty accurate and this test is a very sensitive test to diagnose any thyroid problem.
I would usually also give a tapering dose of oral steroids for my patients in this case though. You may discuss with your doctor about these.
Take care
