Having PCOS. Did A Cyst Removal Surgery. What Are The Chances Of Getting Pregnant If I Take Metformin?
Hi I'm 32 and have had PCOS since 16. When I was 17, my doctor put me on clomid although I wasn't trying to conceive and wasn't even sexually active! After a while of using clomid, one of the cysts grew into a small orange size. Then she referred me for cyst removal surgery and scraping both ovaries through a cut on the abdomen. After that I kept using BC pills for the next 8 years, and my periods were right on time with the pill (there used to be more than 6 months gaps before the pill). at my late 20s I stopped taking the pill and were told I had adhesions. Now I'm not on any medication, have my period only once a year and it lasts every time for about a month! I've never been pregnant and don't want to be, so if I take metformin now, what are my chances of getting pregnant?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. You mentioned that you want to take metformine. This is a very potent drug for PCOS cases and you should take it . Chances of pregnancy depends upon maturation of ovarian follicles . Once follicle mature and burst , it releases ovum . If sex done on that day one get pregnancy. So metformin is only a treatment for PCOS . In my opinion consult a gynecologist and get his opinion regarding safety of conception. Good luck. Dr. HET
