Hi. I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you are feeling better now. Let me see if i can give you some information which will help you decide what needs doing.
Since you were asleep, all the muscles and tendons in your neck were lax. When you fell and hit your head, a number of things could have happened. The tendons and muscles could have gone into spasm to protect your neck and not allow any furthur movement. That might explain your
neck pain. In general this kind of pain will wear off with Over the counter meds like
Acetaminophen or
Ibuprofen. But if the pain is very sharp and isn't going away. Then you need to get to the Doctor for X-rays and maybe eventually MRI's
As for the bump on your head and the overall
head injury. As we age, our brains tend to shrink. But the skull doesn't. So what happens is that sudden trauma like a fall or a nasty bump can make the brain scrape against the skull and damage some of the 'bridging veins' between them.
This is pretty serious as it can lead to a bleed that would be dealt with in the hospital. But since this injury happened 2 nights ago and you haven't had any further signs and symptoms of a bleed. The
dizziness is mostly likely due to swelling that is irritating the parts of the brain that deal with balance. I wouldn't worry too much about that. At your next check-up with your doctor. Mention the bump. But if you start having symptoms like blurry vision,
vomiting and excessive fatigue then get to a doctor ASAP.
All in all, the
stiffness and neck pain can be explained with the idea of a tendinous injury or muscle injury to the neck. Ideally an MRI should be done to rule that out.. but since thats not a very easy test to get done (Costs, time waiting etc) you can try and 'wait and watch'. If the pain is getting better over the next few days. Then wait till you see your doctor at your next appointment. If the pain gets worse or even stays the same then you should get an appointment right away. If the pain is intense and the stiffness is worsening, get to an Emergency room as soon as you can.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me anything else through Healthcaremagic.com
