Headache, Bumpy Rash, Blurred Vision. Was Treated For Conjunctivitis, Iritis. Shingles?
Hello:
I was out of the country in a remote place in Mexico when I developed 2 days of unilateral horrible headaches (I assumed they were migraines as I suffer from them), followed by a bumpy ash on my forehead and temple (disappeared within 3 days). Upon returning to the states, I went straight to my eye doctor as I had developed blurry vision in the one eye. I was treated for conjunctivitis, then iritis. Could this have been a shingles attack???
I have noted your symptoms. It is uncommon for shingles to occur without any rash over the skin. However, rarely, shingles can occur without the typical skin lesions (herpetic vesicles), a condition called as zoster sine herpete.
So, in conclusion, most likely you did not have a shingles infection, but there is a small chance that you had it.
In any case, there is no harm in taking a short course of acyclovir, which can reduce the severity and duration of herpes infections.
I hope it helps. Best wishes, Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology) Senior Consultant Neurologist
