Heavy Bleeding, Large Clots. Taking Iron Supplement. Have Fibroids. Family History Of Fibroids. Steps?
I m 46 with heavy bleeding and large clots for the past year being the most difficult symptoms. I m on an iron suppliment for that past year for low levels of iron and have + + pain for the week prior to and during my menstruation . I have fibroids several measuring 2cm found on an ultrasound last year. I have a family history of Fibroids and my younger sister and maternal grandmother both had surgeries for Fibroids. I m booked to see a GYN as well as a follow up ultrasound. What are the steps the GYN will take from here?
Hi ! Good morning. From your history of heavy bleeding landing you into anemia, it appears to me that the most appropriate treatment for you would be surgery (removal of uterus) to relieve you of your problem. The gynaecologist will also advise you for some preliminary investigations and then go for surgery either open or laparoscopically. Thanks and good luck.
Hi, the excess bleeding could be due to the fibroids only, and there could be some other problems like ovarian cyst, or endomatriosis etc. fibroidectomy may not be possible as there are many fibroids. So, if having children, it is better to have hysterectomy and then iron therapy. Thank you.
