Hello there,
Welcome to healthcareMagic. Knee pain with swelling commonly indicates a cyst, a Bakers cyst, so to say.It could be bursitis, tendinitis. Then there are arthritis of different origin like... rheumatoid, psoriatic, gouty, seronegative type. You might have had a meniscus injury also. So pl pay a visit to an orthopedician and get a X-ray / MRI(if required). Meanwhile, give your affected limb rest and may take some over the counter analgesics for pain relief.Get well soon.

Homeopath Dr. Rangadhar Satapathy's  Response
Hi
it is Oesteo arthritis . In osteoarthritis the cartilage get thinner and you will get pain and cracking sound due to thin cartilage. Homeopathy treatment will help a lot in osteoarthritis both to reduce pain and building cartilage. Take this two medicines 1) Rhus tox - 10M - Weekly once for 3 weeks 2) Causticum - 10M weekly once for 3 weeks (These two homeopathy medicines can be purchased online through http://www.abchomeopathy.com/shop.php). Another one is Glucosamine Chondroitin tabs ( you can purchase it from http://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Glucosamine-Chondroitin-Strength/dp/B000GFSVX2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1300475007&sr=1-1)
