Hernia All The Way Across Chest Blocking Stomach, Colon, Left Lung, Under Left Shoulder. Due For Surgery. Chances Of Survival?

yes but this is unreal but true! I am facing surgery but scared! I have a large hernia laying all the way across my chest. This is blocking my stomach/colon/left lung/diapram/ uder left shoulder. this has been there for at least 12 yrs but I didnt understand. I am facing emergency surgery in next 2 weeks. I am scared! If this cost money, please do not answer! I realize this is unreal but so true. I am a walking miracle and have been for I dont know how many years. I am 65 and have a daughter that will be 13 in November! I am told I may not be able to raise her if I dont go through this surgery. The surgeon tells me he will remove the large hernia, then pull my colon, stomach, diaphram, and lung back where they are suppose to be. This sounds so easy but is it as easy as it sounds or is it dangerous! Is my life in dander either way! What is my risk one way or the other?

Cosmetic & Plastic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The problem lies with the duration: the contents of the hernia have been there for the last 12 years and thus the abdominal wall is not accustomed to the large volume of the hernial sac. This might cause a problem while the contents are reduced during the surgery and might require ventilatory support. Otherwise, the condition is completely curable.
Best wishes with your surgery.
