High Fever. Taken Crocin. Temperature Above Normal. What Food Is Recommended?

Child of 4 1/2 years, weighing approximately 14 kgs having high fever. Crocin DS (double strength) 5ml given but the temperature is not really coming down. Its now coming close to 6 hours and we plan to give him his second dose but wanted to know if something else is needed. Equally we are vegetarians and wondering what kind of food would help him? Appreciate your advice.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Continue to give paracetamol as symptomatic treatment.
What are the other associated complaints?
Does your kid have any sore throat or burning urination or recurrent urination or cough or cold?
They help in arriving at the exact cause and further treatment is based on the cause.

As far as diet is concerned you should give him a normal balanced diet as accepted after the fever is controlled.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

Hi
Thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Relax, there is nothing to worry, your child is having fever which is mostly viral in nature and settles in few days.
Continue with paracetamol every 4 to 6 hours till fever is above 100F.
Do tepid sponging if fever is above 102F
Give plenty of fluids, fruit juice, vegetable soup and soft bland diet.

If fever continues for more than 48hours get him evaluated by pediatrician for further management.

Wishing your child good health.
God bless..

Pediatrician Dr. Dr. Pradeep Jain's  Response
Fever is a manifestation of disease. The cause of fever has to be found out.
The reduction of fever involves a good supportive care in form of cool airy atmosphere ,thin clothes plenty of oral fluids , sponging with lukewarm water or warm water bathing.

The cause fever can be judged by a good history ,description of disease ,thorough clinical examination with relevant investigation if needed.

Lots of fluid ,with soft easy to digest diet is going to help.
