Hip And Vertebral Compression Fracture Due To Vitamin D3 Deficiency. Taking Medications. Can She Walk In Future?

my mother is 80 years old. she had vertebral compression fracture without fall. a year earlier she had hip fracture after fall. x-ray revealed the screw of the plate has broken. doctor says it happened as the vitamin d3 is very low as revealed in blood test. BMD score is T--1.7 and Z score 0.2. CT scan of dorso lumber spine says osteoporotic compression of superior endplates of D12 &L1 vertebrae and grade 1 lytic spondylolisthesis at L5-S1 and degenerative spondylolisthesis at L4-L5. and blood test for calcium shows 9.3mg/dl, creatinine 1.1 mg/dl and vitamin d3 2.34 ng/ml were given. she has been given nervmax 75, she is unable to tolerate. is it very necessary to take? vitamin d3 injection given per week..., she walks with a walker with pain as she is unable to lift her left leg which was operated.....would she be able to walk normally in future....please give a proper direction as i am really confused and worried...

Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

Your mother is having marked Osteo artheritis, osteomalcia and osteoporosis giving rise to pathological fracture in vertebrae.

As thee is damage of plate in hip bone condition still becomes difficult.

Now do not allow her walking as it may give another pathological fracture in another bone even with slight strain.

Continue the treatment with calcium, vit D and A.

Ok and bye.
