History Of Feet Surgery. Prognosis After Reconstructive Surgery?
I AM A 36YR OLD MALE. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH BOTH OF MY FEET SINCE AGE 12. I WENT TO A SURURE MADE ME QUIT FOR GOOD. I HAVE A GREAT METABOLISM AND CAN GAIN OR LOSE 10LBS IN A WEEK.GEON WHEN I WAS 16YRS OLD TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE FOR MY FEET THAT I INHERITED FROM MY GRANDMOTHER. THE SURG SAID IT WAS HEREDITARY,BUT SINCE I PLAYED SPORTS,ACTUALLY MULTIPLE SPORTS FROM THE TIME I COULD RUN TIL MY FIRST STRESS FRACTURE AT 16, THEN AFTER IT HEALED INTO COLLEGE 1 YR,THEN STRESS FRACT. SORRY ABOUT TEXT IT S MESSED UP. WHAT IM SAYING IS THE SURGEON SAID HE COULDNT DO MY FOOT SURGERY. A RECONSTUCTIVE WOULD HAVE TO DO THEM ONE AT A TIME. THIS WILL CONSIST OF BREAKN AND RESETTING EVERY BONE IN EACH FOOT AND SHAVE THE LARGE BUNIONS ALSO OFF EACH OF MY BIG TOES. MY ? IS THAT ITS BEEN 20 YRS SINCE THIS DIAGNOSIS. EACH FOOT HE SAYS WILL TAKE ME BEING IN A WHEELCHAIR FOR 6 TO 8MNTHS AND CRUTCHES FOR MANY WKS AFTER THAT. HE CANT DO BOTH FEET AT THE SAMETIME SO IN REALITY ILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE DOWN APPROX 2YRS. IS THIS STILL A CURRENT PROGNOSIS,EVEN AFTER 20YRS? IM ADD AND CANT SIT FOR 10MINS. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN XTREMELY ACTIVE. WHATS THE DEAL, DOC?
This is to let you know that any form of reconstructive surgery to correct the deformities in foot will take a minimum of 3-4 months for the reparative process to complete and consolidate.
As you cannot sit idle for 10 minutes (as per your description), I feel that you have to rethink twice before opting for surgical correction.
Hope this information is helpful. Good luck
