History Of Losing Consciousness. Now No Medications. Reports Are Normal. Problem?
Hello Doctor, My father had lost his consciousness continuously for 3 days an year back. Right now he is not under any meditation. Doctors could not conclude if he really had a TIA as all his reports were normal. Is he at risk since he is not under any meditation currently? Please suggest. His Habits - He Smokes and there is a Stroke happened in the family. (My Grandfather had a stroke before he died) Thanks, Nandini
A history of stroke in family increases the risk of stroke in other members also. Smoking is another risk factor for stroke. Loss of consciousness suddenly without preceding black out is called Strokes Adam attack. Loss of consciousness with preceding black out is called transient ischemic attack. These two symptoms occur due to some kind of insufficiency of the blood circulation to the brain. A carotid doppler will help to know the cause of loss of consciousness. it may be due to obstruction, narrowing, etc of the brain circulation. Consult a neurologist for prescription of this investigation.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
