History Of Ruptured L5-S1. Done Laminectomy. Have Pain After Lifting Box

Hi there... Ruptured L5-S1 about 25 yrs ago. Had laminectomy to resolve the anterior rupture , but while lifting a box during a move, I felt a crunch in the area and the resulting pain was unbelievable - fire that spread laterally throughout my torso from back to front.

I figure the remaining disc has been further squashed, and wonder what can be done (if anything) to increase the amount of space between the vertebrae so that my nerve isn't being tormented on a daily basis.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

Do MRI spine ,Due to compression of this nerve root there is tingling numbness in your leg and pain associated with it.

For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
Core stabilizing spine exercises will help.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.

If nerve compression becomes severe later on then surgical decompression will give permanent relief.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
