History Of Taking 100mg Prometrium To Delay Periods For 2 Days And Then Stopping. Chances Of Delayed Periods?

Hi Dr Manjunath

I have a cruise planned for this weekend but my period is due the day we leave. I convinced my gyn to prescribe 100 mg prometrium to take daily. Now I am not so sure I made the right choice to delay my period. I began taking 100 mg of prometrium 2 days ago for a period scheduled to begin 2 days from now. Is there any chance this dosage will delay my period??

Thank u

Hello,

To delay period, norethisterone group of drug is usually preferred and it is to be taken 3 days prior to due date & continues as long as you want (max 7 days). It is most effective.

However, prometrium can delay your period with regular intake prior to period. In my opinion, dose is not adequate. Kindly, consult with your doctor regarding this.

All the best.
