How Can shooting Pain In The Head Be Treated?

Good evening, I have had a flu over the last four days. Accompanying this condition have been shooting pains on the left side of my head, which dissipates eventually when I take Advil. What might be the cause? Perhaps an inner ear infection? Thank you. YYYY@YYYY

Hello

Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns.

I think you are right about the left sided facial pain being due to infection of the middle ear.

The pain that you are experiencing could also be due to sinusitis. May be the left maxillary sinus ( the sinus present in the left cheek bone) is inflamed. Hence you are having pain in the left side of the head.

Another possibility is that you are having a dental problem. May be there is a tooth decay on the left side causing pain.

Infection of ear and sinus is most likely of viral origin. It would settle within the next 5-7 days.

Take rest and drink plenty of fluids. if it is a sinus infection, then steam inhalation can help.

Advil ( Ibuprofen) will help to settle the pain. Take Advil with food, if taken on empty stomach it can cause gastritis. You could also take Ranitidine 150 mg twice a day as long as you are taking the the Advil.

If the pain worsens kindly see your doctor.

I hope this answer has helped you.
