Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to care for my Mom ( age 81) w/ Alzheimers . My brother and I have alternated caring for her at home for the last 5 yrs. It is becoming so increasingly hard to do this. She is becoming so paranoid, emotional, and combative. She is on serquel 50 mg x daily and now that seems to be not effective. She is afraid to be alone in a room even for a min. She barcades all the doors in the house with furniture because she is afraid. She is very combative about doing any thing to care for her such as bathing changing clothes, taking meds, brushing teeth. I am so overwhelmed and I can't get a Dr. to help find a placment for her becausee she is too mobile and she is combative. Any suggestions.
Hello Welcome to Ask a Doctor service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. It is the psychological condition she must be having, sedative may helps her (Tranquilizer) and you can discuss about this medicine with her physician, in geriatric age such symptoms are difficult to manage, nursing care may helps a lot and for that you can appoint some food nurse instead hospitalization, else you have to do the job, I would again advise to discuss about the sedative or tranquilizer. Hope I have answered your query, let me know for further assistance.
