How Can Heberden S Nodes On The Fingers Be Treated?

I have developed Heberden’s nodes on my right fore finger. It has become more painful and disfigured but not distorted to either side. There are symmetrical lumps on each side for the distal joint. I am a massage therapist and would like to have the lumps reduced. I apply heat, take anti inflammatory medication, and regularly gently stretch the joint to keep it as supple as possible. I have altered my working techniques to reduce pressure on the joint. I am 54 years old and in fairly good health.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Heberden's nodes are seen in osteoarthritis. They can cause pain and stiffness of joints. Use physiotherapy exercises and analgesics for relief. It takes considerable amount of time to reduce the disfigurement of your finger.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
