Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
67 yr old female, fell and tore right rotator cuff in May, have had extensive physical therapy, gone to surgeon, inoperable to repair, only possibility is replacement of ball and socket . Currently receiving cortisone shots in shoulder that are helping but bicep swells and have a lot of pain, already on percocet for extensive arthritis thru out whole body but this is stabbing pain. Put lidocaine ointment and ace bandage to relieve some of pain but there is now bruising showing in the upper arm where the pain is. Yes I do regular house hold duties as I have recently retired but when the pain is sharp, I have to stop. Over the counter ibuprofen 200 mg but need to know is there something else I can take. Thank you.
The symptoms seem to be related to torn rotator cuff. I see through the query that you have already used pain reliever. I suggest to use ice compresses to relieve the pain and rest. Continue using anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day. If the symptoms continue I suggest to consult an orthopedist for further evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
