How Can I Improve My Children S Immunity?

HI, I have two boys, aged 6 and 2 and both of them continue to have chest infections, cough, cold and fever almost every 3 months. Their Docs say that it is because of lack of nutrients in diet or maybe because of atmosphere pollution since we stay at a place which is near to industrial hub. The Docs have prescribed an Iron syrup and a multivitamin syrup. What need to be done to build their immunity. The kids are predominantly on a veg diet. Thanks, Krish

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...what you are doing currently is perfectly fine. There are no specific measures to build up the immunity. Do not believe in medicines which advertise that they will improve immunity. But I agree that your doctor is right in giving your kids a multivitamin syrup. It might help, it is not a medicine and is only a food supplement. regarding diet you can provide more proteins in the diet by giving boiled pulses daily.
