How Can I Manage My Elevated Uric Acid Level While Meeting My Protein Needs For Weight Loss And Gym Routine?

I am 20 years old, 83kg height 5.4 ft going to gym and have reduced weight from 92kg. I am obese. I did blood test. All my reports are normal except uric acid uric acid is 7.8 i never take seafoodred meat alcohol I etc . I take 1 scoop whey, moderate chicken breast and mainly plant based protein sources like soya chunks lentils besan etc. I have to go to gym to reduce weight and for that I need protein around my body weight grams. So what should I do? I have started taking 4 litre of water every day after the test.

Hello,

Rapid fat loss releases purines from your tissues temporarily, which can increase uric acid. This usually settles down with time. Consuming 4 liters of water will help flush uric acid. However, be sure you drink small portions of it throughout the day, and not all at once. You don’t need to cut protein entirely, you need it. You are advised to reduce excessive portions.

Take lower-purine protein like eggs, low-fat dairy, tofu, whole grains like quinoa or oats, nuts and seeds. Include exercise in your daily life to improves insulin sensitivity. It helps with uric acid clearance. Aim for slow and sustainable fat loss. Avoid crash diets.

Repeat uric acid test after 60 days. It should reduce to normal as you will be on low purine food. You should also get done kidney function (eGFR, creatinine) to be in peace of mind. One scoop of whey is not a problem in itself, but over time, excess protein increases nitrogen load and can stress kidneys, slightly raising uric acid.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
