How Can IBS And Diarrhea Be Treated?

I am having ibs with diarrhea and have actually had some form of colitis all mylife. I take Imodium as neded and it usually lasts 3 or 4 days. I am getting extremely distressed out about it and that exacerbates the problem, I am sure. I want to know if I can take one Imodium every day to try to get myself regulated. I am an 87 year old, very active lady.

Hi, thanks for asking the question.

I understand distress related with colitis. My advice is not to use Imodium (loperamide) frequently. You can use Oral Rehydration Solution as per WHO guidelines. It will help to reduce diarrhoea frequency.
Getting distressed because of it will worsen the condition. You can use Amitryptillin 10 mg for 1 - 2 week and then you can get used to regular bowel movements. Don't use it more than 2 weeks.

As a preventive measure you avoid more oily as well as spice foods.

Thanks.
