How Can Meniere S Disease Be Treated?

I have question on what over the counter diuretic I can buy. I have Meniere s Disease. A few years ago I was prescribed triamterene, but stopped taking it after about a year when I felt it wasn t working any longer. My strongest symptoms are my right ear pulsing/throbbing, feeling like my ear is full and echoing when I talk. This is usually 24/7. I don t so much have the vertigo, very rarely have that, or the ringing, the ringing is once in a while, but doesn t last all day, everyday like my other symptoms. Thanks

Hello,

You refer to over the counter medicine but I am afraid medication for is usually not sold over the counter but upon prescription (though rules may differ depending on where you live).

Most commonly used medications are diuretics like triamterene/hydrochlorothiazide or acetazolamide, steroids, antihistamines and histamine agonists like betahistine.

Among these I am afraid usually only antihistamines are over the counter, they are used to alleviate vertigo when present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
