How Can Zika Virus Fever Be Prevented During Pregnancy?

Hello Dr., I have a question regarding Zika and pregnancy. My husband is traveling to Manila, Philippines for two weeks, and we are in process of trying to conceive. The Philippines is a risk area for Zika with 57 confirmed cases. We just had a chemical pregnancy last week and we heard couples are most fertile afterwards, and want to try again right away. If he doesn t get bit by any mosquitoes there, are we ok to continue trying when he returns immedietely? What about if he does get bit? Thank you for the response! Sincerely, Lily

Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

You can continue for attempt for being pregnant. If your husband is having Zika virus infection then fever, malaise, hemorrhagic manifestation etc can be present. Even if he is infected he can be able to make conception if no preexisting abnormal semen analysis history present.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
