Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Fever, Cough And Constant Nausea?
Patient has had a fever for over a month, have check for Zika, influenza, Mrsa, pneumonia, bronchitis, all negative. Has bad cough and now can t eat very much and feels nauseous sometimes. Been in and out of hospital twice now and still no anwsers. Any suggestions?
While most fevers are caused by these common bugs and are easily diagnosed, but many times there are other uncommon causes of fever. A fever that is not diagnosed in 2 weeks in 2 OPD visits is called PUO, (pyrexia of unknown origin). The causes of such fever include
1. Uncommon infections like TB, brucellosis, infective endocarditis etc.
2. Rhumatlaigical and autoimmune diseases like SLE etc.
3. Sometimes it may be hidden malignancies.
So the causes are extensive and would need an extensive workup for knowing the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
