How Can A Burn Wound On The Hand Be Treated?

I have second and third degree burns on my hand. It happened two days ago. At th ER it was debriefed and wrapped. I went in yesterday and today to have dressings changed. Today there is a lot of swelling. First they used silver gel yesterday they put a flimsy brown microbial film with silver in it on the burn and wrapped it. Today it has significant swelling but they used the same brown flimsy microbial film on it and wrapped it. I looked up the microbial film and under precautions it said do not use on third degree burns. Should I bring this to their attention tomorrow or go back to the ER immediately?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As per your clinical history is concerned, do a proper clinical evaluation by your Doctor and discuss IV antibiotics and a tetanus shot. Do dressing as per your treating Doctor's advice.

Do follow a few preventive steps -
1) Never leave items cooking on the stove unattended. Turn pot handles toward the rear of the stove.
2) Use sturdy oven mitts that cover hands and wrists.
3) Keep hot liquids out of the reach of children and pets.
4) Never cook while wearing loose-fitting clothes that could catch fire over the stove.
5) Keep space heaters away from combustible materials.
6) If you must smoke, avoid smoking in the house and especially never smoke in bed. Check your smoke detectors and change their batteries regularly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo,
