How Can A Medical Abortion S Completion Be Confirmed?

Hi, My last period was on August 21 2017. As i have one year old child, i have not prepared for next one very soon. So i took mifepristone on 28th September and presta kind on 29th September. But no bleeding occurs. After one week I checked urine test it shows positive. I consulted with doc and had mifepristone on 7th October and misoprostol through vaginally on 9th October. Again there is no sign of bleeding. I took ultrasound scan the next day. Report says there is no product at all. No sign of pregnancy. Then I got confused doc ask me to wait for one more week for getting periods. Still I don t get my periods. I do not know where the mistake happens. Is this tablet may cause any problem in future pregnancy. What I have to do now..

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. I have gone through your query and would like to offer some suggestions. Firstly, you should have confirmed the pregnancy not only through the pregnancy test but also through a trans-vaginal sonogram to locate the gestation sac, the age of the pregnancy and proceed with the medication under the supervision of a specialist. Since you failed to expel any products and had no bleeding at all even after taking the medication twice, it is possible that you did not conceive in the first place and perhaps had a faulty test or a molar pregnancy has occurred. Please check your hormone status and get medication to induce a period as required. Hope this helps.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Please do not panic. As per your recent USG reports, you do not have pregnancy in your uterus.

At the outset, it is important to have positive pregnancy test report either by urine pregnancy test or USG, before going ahead with abortion with pills.

If you had positive pregnancy test after taking the abortion pills, the pregnancy gets expelled out with pain and bleeding for sure.

In your case, there might be no definitive pregnancy, and hence there was no bleeding at all and USG is also showing no pregnancy in the uterus.

I will suggest you to get blood beta HCG test done. Values below 5 indicate no pregnancy. In that case, you can opt for progesterone withdrawal bleeding.

Your treating doctor can guide about the dose and withdrawal bleeding with Progesterone hormone tablet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
