How Can An Enlarged Prostate Be Treated?

I am a very active 65 year old . Still working. I do manual labor and have all my life. I love doing the work that a lot of 20 year olds don't wanna do. I love to walk for miles, work all day and come home and make a big supper. Well, the bladder has got to go, along with the prostrate and maybe the glands. I have a choice of a bag stuck to my belly or a bladdermade out of my colon. So, which one will give me the best chance to continue my way of life.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Don't worry at this age prostate enlargement is quite common and it can be cured so relax. First of all, do

1)USG ABDOMEN AND PELVIS to confirm size of prostate to know if it is BPH or something else
2) Serum PSA (prostate specific antigen)

Drugs that can decrease prostate size are; Prazosin, Fenesteride etc and surgical measure is TUPR(transurethral prostatic resection) minor surgery. Using urine catheter for 15 days may also help.

Kindly consult a urosurgeon. And take further step.

Hope this will help you.

Thank you and get well soon.
